Tom Maddux

Nebraska horseman, rodeo cowboy, rancher, mentor

Tom has been a friend and mentor since my high school rodeo days. I hope this piece honors a man, his family and a culture. The highest compliment I can pay is to say, “He’s a horseman.” He has trained horses and competed professionally in calf roping, team roping and single steer roping, as well as cutting and with fancy driving horses.

I’m thinking about what it means in an age struggling with differences. These guys were “different” in their era. They know what it feels like to be rejected, and what it means to define a culture that kids like me wanted to adopt as our own. I have much to say about this. I’m proud as an artist to express it.
