James Terry

African American/Chickasaw

Evidence of prejudice and hatred could have etched their destructive lines in James’ face. He grew up amidst the struggles for civil rights. As a child, he sold newspapers in Lincoln, Nebraska, to help support himself and his family, but was denied entrance to many establishments and endured injustice in many forms as the US and Nebraska struggled with racial equality. YET, what you see in his face is joy, not hate or bitterness. James has seen and contributed to change in society, and he seeks to make this world a better place, one person at a time. His soul is sweet with jazz and he especially loves to share it. James CHOOSES to reflect hope…not despair.
