Clark Kolterman

Dreamer, Doer, Teacher

“Mr. Fourth of July” is a legendary community builder who has taken a big idea and engaged a constantly growing circle of neighbors to create a rural community celebration of global renown. Clark Kolterman saw no reason that Seward, Nebraska, couldn’t be “America’s Fourth of July City” and he has spent nearly a half century as Seward’s Pied Piper, drawing the ideas, energies and labors of fellow citizens, old and young, to that annual achievement. “How do you say no to Clark?” is a common refrain, based not only on his charisma, but his stirring commitment and effort. Beyond the spectacular celebration, however, are the many stories of people Clark has helped, encouraged, comforted and inspired. He is an elder of the first order.
