Bob and I met over a roan stallion we raised named “Red Hot Hancock” when he bought him for the ranch he was managing near Springer, Oklahoma, over 25 years ago. Since then, we have slept in bedrolls in the rain, roped in the heat, and talked and laughed about people, politics and every other conceivable topic over a glass of Scotch late into the evening. Bob is a first-rate horseman and stockman, certainly, but he is also a treasured friend and mentor to me and my family. I did this portrait in their living room when Kathi and I were with him and dear wife, Diana, last fall.
